Welcome to OpenGate Education
As a parent or carer, you know your child better than anyone. When education is not going as planned, it can be difficult to know what support is needed or where to turn next.
Opening pathways. Creating opportunities. Changing futures.
OpenGate Education provides short-term alternative provision for children and young people who need a different approach for a period of time. Our programmes are designed to help young people overcome barriers to learning, rebuild confidence, improve engagement, and prepare for their next step in education.
We believe every child and young person deserves the opportunity to succeed and should never be defined by the challenges they face today.
How placements are arranged
OpenGate Education placements are arranged by:
- Schools
- Academy Trusts
- Local Authorities
- Other authorised education partners
Parents and carers cannot directly commission a placement. However, families play a vital role throughout the process and are involved in planning, review meetings, and discussions about a young person's progress and future pathway.
We believe the best outcomes are achieved when families, commissioners, schools, and OpenGate Education work together.
A bridge to the next step
OpenGate Education is designed to be a temporary support programme, helping young people move positively towards their next stage of education.
This may include:
- Returning to mainstream school
- Transitioning to another educational setting
- Moving into specialist provision
- Preparing for further education, employment or training
Our focus is always on helping young people make progress, achieve agreed outcomes, and move forward with confidence.

Every placement is tailored to the individual and includes clear outcomes, regular reviews, and a plan for what comes next.

If you would like to learn more about OpenGate Education, we encourage you to speak with your child's school, Local Authority representative, or commissioning organisation. They can advise whether OpenGate Education may be an appropriate part of your child's support plan.
Families are also welcome to contact us directly. While placements must be arranged through an authorised commissioning partner, we are always happy to answer questions, provide information about our services, and help you understand the support available to your child and family.
